In February my dad turned 60, he has always hated his birthday and doesn't like to celebrate or let anyone know it is his birthday. So after a lot of thought we decided we would just surprise him with a party as a family. Brook had invited him to go bowling with her kids for his big day, because the kids had been wanting to go bowling for a long time. Honestly I don't think we had ever been bowling with the old man, ever. Well my family drove up to the Burg that day without him knowing, so he thought he was just meeting her family at the bowling alley. When he and my mom got there we were hiding from him, and I walked up behind him as they were paying to ask if we could join them. The look on his face was one I will never forget! He was so surprised, and he is a hard one to surprise. He was just so excited and kept asking me how long we had been there and how long we had been planning the whole thing. Needless to say I think it was his best b-day ever. My mom and sister had found a ton of old pictures of him from growing up and we made him a book and slide show of all of them. We also made him a book with pictures of him and the grandkids, which he loved. And Brook found a cute idea of a collage of pictures with all the kids holding up a sign with the reason they love Grandpa. Maybe now he will like his b-day a little more...
